BP Oil Spill

June 11, 2010

I guess you have heard about the BP Oil Spill. I do not really know much about it except that BP is really taking a long time to clean up their mess. If I am not wrong, the oil spill started on April 22. It is now June 12, which means it has been going on for around one and a half month plus. According to online sources, scientist estimates around 200,000- 400,000 barrels of oil is spilled into the ocean everyday. Until 3 June, 1.76 million barrels of oil has been spilled into the Mexico Gulf. That is like soooo much until I can’t imagine how much it is. I really don’t get why they can’t just cover the leak up or something. I guess the problem’s not that simple.

There are TONS of horrible impacts this oil spill have caused. Firstly it is affecting the livelihood of fishermen. They are unable to fish as the oil can spoil their equipment. And even if it does not, THERE AREN’T EVEN ANY FISHES TO FISH UP COS THEY ARE ALL DEAD.

Secondly, the oil leak is at the gulf stream, which flows into the Alantic Ocean, pushing warm air and water up to Western Europe. Scientists have predicted that this current of water could stop and would make Iceland and Finland, and basically all of western Europe extremely cold. (source from yahoo! answers)
Bet you didn’t know that right?! hahahha.

Thirdly, the oil spill has affected many animals living at the Gulf. Animals like seabirds, pelicans and hermit crabs and like covered in the oil and dying! My heart goes out to those poor innocent creatures ):

Damn you BP.
